Slow start costs Chaps

College of DuPage fought through a rough start Saturday morning against visiting Prairie State before dropping a 52-39 contest in Region 4 women's basketball at PEC Arena.
 
The Chaps (10-10, 10-8 Region 4) return to region play Tuesday night at Kankakee, Thursday at Joliet and return home Saturday for Sophomore Day against Kishwaukee.
 
Down 10-2 after the first quarter, COD rallied with a 10-0 run in the first five-plus minutes of the second quarter and led 18-14 with 1:11 left in the half.  Seven Chaps scored in the quarter, led by Martinez's five points.
 
Prairie State closed with a five-point spurt and led 19-18 at halftime.
 
The Pioneers answered back in the second half, outscoring the Chaps 33-21 in the final 20 minutes for the victory.
 
Sophomore Megan Martinez scored 16 points with four 3-pointers. Teegan Roach was next with seven.
