The College of DuPage women's basketball program will have to wait until Veterans Day to try to earn head coach Kristin Ison her first victory as the captain of the ship. In the season-opening contest against Elgin Community College, the Spartans dropped the Chaparrals to 0-1 on the year with an 84-75 ECC victory.
By halftime, the Spartans were shooting 44.7% from the field and over 36% from three-point range while the Chaps were limited to a slow start, shooting a hair over 18% from the field and making two of ten three-point attempts. At the break, ECC led 46-30.
After the intermission, COD started to see the offense come together with a 35.6% rate in the second half but a blistering shooting performance from Elgin allowed the Spartans to coast to a victory. In the final twenty minutes, ECC improved an extra six percent, with half of the Spartans' attempts finding cords.
ECC won the rebounding game as well, 53-44; although DuPage forced more turnovers (26) than turnovers committed (21).
Ayaani Gusman led DuPage with 19 points with two of the Chaps' six three-pointers.
Saniyya Harvey and
Lexi Lopez both contributed 15 points with Harvey also making multiple shots from deep to pair with the lone COD block on the defensive side.
Nine of Lopez' points came from the free throw line. Her four assists were the most by a Chaparral.
Erin Brown was the leading DuPage rebounder with eight total on the night.
DuPage (0-1) continues the 2025-26 season on Tuesday, Nov. 11 in Grayslake against the College of Lake County.
