The College of DuPage women's basketball program snapped a losing streak at home against the Morton College Panthers on Thursday, Dec. 11 to the tune of a 70-55 contest. Sophomore guard
Kaisje Pryor elevated her game to the next level, setting DuPage career-highs with 21 points and four makes from beyond the arc.
COD rattled off 17Â points in the first quarter, highlighted by threes from
Ayaani Gusman and
Jamie Hasemann. In the second quarter, Pryor took over with three threes and two more baskets from inside the paint. Gusman added another shot from deep, with five other Chaps registering points in the quarter. In the ten minutes, DuPage logged 28 points, one of their highest marks of the year.
The Chaps' intense full-court press proved to be the Panthers' kryptonite as DuPage forced several turnovers before Morton could cross halfcourt. At the half, DuPage held a slim two-point lead, 45-43.Â
The third quarter wasn't as productive on the offensive end, but COD's defense kept Morton at bay as well.
In the final frame, Pryor laced her fourth three-pointer while Gusman ran her total up to 16 points on the night thanks to crafty drives to the cup.
Erin Brown battled on the boards and got into double digits in the fourth as well, ending her night with an extra 13 points.Â
"When we're shooting with more confidence, it's a big building block," said Coach Ison. "We still need to shore up our defense, that's going to improve our chances at winning, but it's a start."
DuPage (2-9)Â was able to coast to their second victory of the year. The season continues on Friday, Dec. 19 on the road at Carl Sandburg College. COD is winless in six contests against the Chargers since 2015.
