Chaps stay in control over Madison, 70-56

Sophomore Makenna Brown's 3-pointer midway through the first quarter gave the Chaps the lead for good in a 70-56 victory at Madison on Saturday in Region 4 women's basketball.

COD (15-12, 15-10 Region 4), which has now won five of its last six games and seven of its last 10, sets its sights on Tuesday night's home game against Harper (1-26, 1-24). A COD victory would mark its most wins in a season since the Chaps won 19 in 2013-14.

Brown's trey triggered a 9-4 run as COD led after the opening period, 19-14. The lead never got fewer than seven points the remainder of the game.

Megan Martinez led COD with 17 points with four 3-pointers. Brown followed with 15 and 11 rebounds, and Jaylen Zachary 10.

COD outscored Madison on fast break points, 23-10 and received 22 points from its bench.
