Chaps fade in 4th quarter

Freshman Jaylen Zachary led COD with 11 points and Megan Martinez added nine, but it wasn't enough as visiting Madison came-from-behind and dealt the Chaparrals a 45-41 loss in Region 4 women's basketball Thursday night.

COD (16-13, 16-11 Region 4) now awaits Sunday's Region 4 tourney announcement. The first round begins Thursday night.

The Chaps raced to a 21-11 lead after the opening quarter and held Madison to just four points in the second quarter for a 29-15 halftime lead.

COD, which had its four-game winning streak snapped, led by as many as 15 (32-17) when Zachary hit a jumper with 5:52 left in the third.

That got Madison going, as Hannah Solie hit three straight 3-pointers as the WolfPack closed in, trailing 34-30 after three.

COD scored just three field goals in the final quarter and finished the second half 0-for-11 on threes.

Madison improved to 11-16, 10-15.
