Second-quarter lift keys Chaps over Stormers

College of DuPage, behind Megan Martinez's 11 points and Makenna Brown's 10, scored 16 straight second-quarter points and that was enough to hold on to a 56-50 Region 4 women's basketball victory over visiting Milwaukee Area TC on Thursday night.

The Chaps improved to 13-12 overall and 13-10 Region 4. They next play Thursday night at South Suburban.

Brown and Martinez each scored six points in the second quarter as COD moved from a 10-8 lead through one period to a 26-8 lead with 3:50 left in the half.

COD held the Stormers scoreless in the final 5:21 of the game after the Stormers came back and led, 50-47. A technical foul was called at 5:04 on MATC, with Martinez hitting two free throws and Madison Dubiel scoring the third, tying the game at 50-50.

Two minutes later, Martinez gave COD the lead for good on a 3-pointer and Dubiel hit three more free throws down the stretch for the win.

On the night, COD scored seven 3-pointers. Madeline Maracich and Kaisje Pryor each scored eight in the victory. Dubiel added seven.
