The Chaparrals found their way in Wednesday's home opener, earning masterful pitching and timely hitting for a 1-0 victory over Region 4 opponent Morton College.
Freshman
Zach Glidewell provided three of the Chaps' four hits that included a double and two singles. Sophomore
Anthony Titone contributed the Chaps' other hit, a double in the eighth.
COD secured the only run of the game in the sixth inning.
Michael Morgan led off with a walk, and scored on a one-out, sacrifice fly to center from
Alex Chaltin.
Freshman RHP
Steve Hobbs (1-0) was stellar in his first start, throwing six shutout innings, striking out nine with just one walk and scattering six hits.
Hobbs was the beneficiary of fine defensive play in the sixth when he induced a 5-4-3 double play with the bases loaded that started with a diving play from Chaltin.Â
RHP
Mike Biscan held the Panthers scoreless for the final three innings and earned his first save of the season. Both Hobbs and Biscan allowed weak contact all game and let the Chaps' defense do the rest.
The Chaps face visiting College of Lake County Thursday. First pitch is 2 p.m.
