COD earned a pair of decisive victories Tuesday afternoon against visiting Elgin Community College, winning 14-3 and 19-5 in games called after five innings.
The Chaps (8-2, 8-2 Region 4), who won their fourth straight and fifth in their last six games, are at Oakton (0-7, 0-4) on Thursday.
Elgin dropped to 0-8, 0-8. COD outscored the Spartans a cumulative 44-11 in three games this season — all ending in five innings.
Game 1: Chaps 14, Elgin 3 5 innings
- The game was essentially over after the first inning with the Chaps scoring 12 runs in the frame
- Raena Del Angel capped the inning with a two-run home run to left
- Del Angel leads COD in HRs with four
- Jalene Sanchez earned a two-run double in the first
- Sydney Hurst added a two-run single in the first and finished with three RBI
- Del Angel added a leadoff double in the third
- Jenna Maples added RBI singles in both the second and third innings and went 3-for-3
- Chaps RHP Addison Brandl (6-0) earned the win, giving up four hits, striking out nine and issuing just one walk
Game 2: Chaps 19, Elgin 5 5 innings
- After taking a 2-0 lead in the first, COD scored 10 runs on nine hits and sent 15 to the plate in the second
- Taylor Gloms contributed two, two-run singles in the second
- Gracie Bruckie, who replaced Glom in the second position in the lineup, added a two-run single in the third, keying the six-run inning
- Aliyah Heredia gave COD a 1-0 lead in the first with a single that scored Riley O'Neill (error, center field)
- Heredia then scored when Julia Colorato reached base on an infield error
- Heredia, Taniya Jackson each had three hits
- COD totaled 20 hits
- Alyssa Dubinski threw 3 1/3 innings and earned the win with two strikeouts
