Host Kankakee College controlled Saturday's doubleheader against the Chaparrals, handing a doubleheader sweep, 14-6 and 12-4, in Region 4 softball.
COD (8-4, 8-4 Region 4), which had its four-game winning streak snapped is off until Friday when it plays host to Harper College (0-0) at Sark Field. First pitch is 3 p.m.
Game 1: Kankakee 14, Chaparrals 6 6 innings
- The Chaps scored three runs in the first and another three runs in the second
- Kankakee led 13-6 through three after scoring three in the first, six in the second and four in the third
- Taylor Gloms, Raena Del Angel, Riley O'Neill and Sydney Hurst each had a double
- Hurst drove in two runs
- RHP Addison Brandl threw one inning and struck out three after giving up four hits
Game 2: Kankakee 12, Chaparrals 4 6 innings
- COD closed to within three runs after scoring two in the fifth for a 7-4 KCC lead
- The Chaps totaled eight hits, all singles
- Cadee Baker, Julia Colorato, and O'Neill had multi-hit games
- Colorato, O'Neill and Jenna Maples each had an RBI
- Baker scored two of COD's four runs
- Gloms threw four innings and struck out two with one walk
NOTES: Del Angel is hitting .500 (17 for 3
4) through 12 games. Twelve of her 17 hits are for extra-bases with seven doubles and four home runs … COD is hitting a collective .473 with 111 RBI (scoring a total of 136 runs).
