Cullen Kleinsasser delivered a two-out RBI single in the eighth as COD earned the sweep with a 6-5 extra-inning victory in Region 4 baseball Wednesday afternoon.
COD (7-11, 7-5 Region 4) returns to action Friday afternoon when it plays at Olive-Harvey in a 9-inning game. First pitch is 2 p.m.
The Chaps play Saturday at home against Moraine Valley in a 9-inning game. Game time is noon.
Game 1: Chaparrals 2, Waubonsee 0
- In the sixth, Anthony Titone led off the inning and reached on a hit by pitch
- It marked the first time in the game a Chaparral had reached second base when Titone moved to second on a ground out from No. 2 hitter Alex Chaltin
- On a 3-2 count, Sullivan drove a fastball to deep center and COD broke the 0-0 tie
- The home run was Sullivan's third of the season, tops on the squad
- RHP Steve Hobbs was outstanding in his seven innings, throwing a four-hit shutout — all singles — on 89 pitches (58 strikes)
- Hobbs struck out four and walked just two
- Hobbs improved to 2-1 in his team-leading 22 IP and an ERA of 2.86 in four appearances
- Matt McBrien accounted for the Chaps' other hit
Game 2: Chaparrals 6, Waubonsee 5 8 innings
- Cullen Kleinsasseer's two-out RBI single scored Anthony Titone (walk) for the game-winning run in the eighth
- COD grabbed a 3-1 lead in the first and padded it to 5-2 in the second
- In the first, Jason Sullivan delivered a two-out, two-double to center that scored Joe Pender (hit by pitch) and Kleinsasser (single)
- Sullivan then scored when AJ Fulscher reached base on a liner that was bobbled by the center fielder
- Kleinsasser's big game opened with a two-run double to center that scored McBrien (walk) and Pender (hit by pitch) in the second
- Waubonsee tied the game in the seventh with a three-run, three-hit inning, sending 10 to the plate
- RHP Mike Biscan threw two innings of relief and secured the victory, moving to 1-2 on the year
- He faced just seven batters and gave up only one hit
- Kleinsasser had three of COD's five hits
- Michael Morgan accounted for the Chaps' other hit
