Sydney Hurst reached base on a walk, breaking up Rock Valley's Natalie Lower's perfect-game bid as the host Golden Eagles defeated the Chaparrals 8-0 in Friday's Region 4 softball opener.

The Chaps were then defeated 9-1 in five innings in the nightcap.

COD (14-10, 14-10 Region 4) is at Triton (22-6, 13-5) on Tuesday.

Game 1: Rock Valley 8, Chaparrals 0 6 innings

• RHP Addison Brandl threw one inning, giving up three hits and one run (earned)
• Reliever Taylor Gloms threw 4 1/3 innings, giving up five hits, and seven runs (three earned)

Game 2: Rock Valley 9, Chaparrals 1 5 innings

• Taylor Gloms drove in the Chaps' only run, scoring Riley O'Neill in the fourth
• Cadee Baker, Julia Colorato and Jenna Maples each hit a single
• RHP Alyssa Dubinski took the loss, throwing 4 2/3 innings
