Taylor Gloms homered and
Julia Colorato doubled in each game, but visiting Bryant and Stratton was more than a formidable foe while handing the Chaparrals a 7-2 and 14-5 sweep in Region 4 softball Wednesday afternoon at Sark Park.
COD (18-14, 18-14 Region 4) plays at Carl Sandburg (13-33, 10-24) on Friday and at Oakton (9-17, 8-14) on Saturday before closing the regular season at home Monday against McHenry County (6-12, 6-12).
Game 1: Bryant and Stratton 7, Chaparrals 2
- Down 1-0, COD secured its only lead of the day with a two-run first inning
- Colorato's RBI-double earned COD's first run and three batters later, Gloms' single scored Colorato for the two-run inning
- Addison Brandl earned COD's only other extra-base hit, a double in the seventh
- Sydney Hurst and Colorato joined Brandl with two hits each
- Brandl earned the start, throwing six innings and giving up nine hits, seven runs (six earned) with three strikeouts
- Reliever Alyssa Dubinski threw a scoreless sixth, giving up one hit
Game 2: Bryant and Stratton 14, Chaparrals 5 5 innings
- The Bobcats scored five runs on six hits in the first and never trailed
- Gloms delivered a two-run homer over the left-field wall in the second, scoring Riley O'Neill who singled
- Colorato's one-out double scored Cadee Baker, who singled in the third
- Alyssa Elizondo came through with a pinch-hit, two-out triple in the fourth
- Baker added COD's final run of the day on a single that scored Elizondo
