COD trailed early and rallied with a late offense to beat Olive Harvey College 14-11 in Region 4 play Sunday.
The Chaparrals (16-23, 16-15 Region 4) logged 16 hits and nine free bases via a walk or hit by pitch.
The Chaps are in action at 3 p.m. today against Milwaukee Area TC, resuming a previous scheduled game from April 1 7. The game begins in the top of the fifth with the Stormers leading, 8-4 and will be seven innings.
Chaps 14, Olive-Harvey 11
- Jason Sullivan scored the first two runs of the game in the first inning on a two-RBI double after AJ Fulscher was hit and Cullen Kleinsasser singled
- The Panthers rallied for five runs in the second inning, one more in the fifth and added three more in the sixth and led 9-2, setting up COD's sixth
- The Chaps responded with five runs in the sixth, including a RBI-single from Alex Chaltin and Matt McBrien and a two-run double from Anthony Titone
- After OH scored two runs in the seventh, COD tied the game at 11 with four runs of its own in the inning
- The four-run rally was sparked by home runs from both Sullivan (his 10th of the year) and Joe Pender (his third)
- COD took the lead on Titone's third RBI of the day on a ground ball to the right side and scored twice in the eighth, highlighted by a RBI single from Michael Morgan for a 14-11 lead
- Sullivan got the start on the mound, allowing five earned runs in four innings on six hits and three walks while striking out seven
- RHP Porter Olson (5-3) threw the final five innings, giving up six runs (four earned), also on six hits and three walks with three strikeouts
- Pender led the offense with four hits, while Morgan, Kleinsasser and Titone each had two-hit games
- Sullivan tied Titone for the team-high in RBI with three
- McBrien, Fulscher, Sullivan and Billy Rogus all had two walks
- Morgan and Titone each had a stolen base
