Matt McBrien laced a home run as the Chaps defeated Milwaukee Area TC 7-5 on April 17. A delay in the second game due to rain forced the nightcap to be played April 28. COD, which trailed 8-4 in the top of the fifth when delayed, came back and won 13-11 on a grand slam walk-off from
Cullen Kleinsasser.
The Chaps (17-24, 17-18 Region 4) take on Prairie State on Wednesday for a nine-inning game. First pitch is 3 p.m.
Game 1: Chaps 7, MATC Stormers 5
- The Chaps scored in the first inning when Cullen Kleinsasser hit an RBI single to left field that scored AJ Fulscher, who reached on a walk
- A three-run third inning featured a lead-off double from John McCabe, before McBrien walked and Fulscher singled through the left side that scored McCabe
- Chaltin then hit a deep double to left field to score McBrien and Fulscher
- COD rallied for three runs in the sixth inning, with four walks leading to a run scored on a wild pitch, a sacrifice fly by McBrien and another RBI single from Kleinsasser
- Fulscher, Joe Pender, Billy Rogus and Zach Glidewell all reached base on sixth-inning walks
- RHP Jim Traficanti started on the mound, throwing five innings and allowing three earned runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out two
- RHP Joey Vandermeir (1-0) earned the victory by throwing the final two innings, striking out two and allowing two earned runs on four hits
Game 2: Chaps 13, MATC Stormers 11
- The Chaps trailed 11-9 when Kleinsasser delivered the bases-clearing shot over the center-field wall for the win
- COD dug themselves an early hole, allowing four runs in the second inning but rallying for four of their own in the third
- Matt McBrien led off the inning with a solo home run before AJ Fulscher hit a triple and Alex Chaltin doubled, scoring Fulscher
- Two batters later, Joe Pender's RBI single to left field scored Chaltin
- Pender came around for the fourth run of the inning on a passed ball
- McBrien, Fulscher, Chaltin and Billy Rogus each had two hits
- RHP Mike Biscan earned the start, allowing eight runs (seven earned) over four innings of work on nine hits and a walk while striking out four batters
- LHP Alex Ingram earned the win, throwing three innings and giving up three runs (all earned), striking out two and walking four
