Sydney Hurst drove in seven runs, thanks to a three-run double, a two-run home run, and a run-scoring single as COD defeated Oakton 18-4 in Saturday's Region 4 softball opener.
 
The Owls came back in the second game, handing COD a 10-9 loss.
 
First game: Chaparrals 18, Oakton 4

• Hurst finished 4-for-5 with her seven RBI, two doubles and home run
• Raena Del Angel drove in three runs, going 3-for-4 with a double
• Addison Brandl finished 4-for-4 with two RBI and three runs scored
• Jenna Maples went 3-for-4 with a triple and drove in a run
• Cadee Baker had a triple among her two hits
• Julia Colorato had a double with two hits
• Riley O'Neill went 2-for-4
• Brandl threw five innings, striking out eight and giving up three hits

Second game: Oakton 10, Chaparrals 9

• Oakton rallied with a four-run seventh for the win
• Julia Colorato and Jenna Maples each homered
• Colorato finished a double shy of the cycle
• Cadee Baker had two hits
• Taylor Gloms struck out two in her 2.1 innings
• Alyssa Dubinski struck out two in three innings
