College of DuPage Baseball hosted Rock Valley for two Region 4 7-inning contests Friday, winning the first game 4-2 before dropping the second one 5-3.
The Chaps (10-13, 10-7 Region 4) return to action Sunday for an afternoon doubleheader at home against Bryant & Stratton. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
Chaps 4, Rock Valley 2
- Trailing 2-0 in the fourth inning, the Chaps rallied to plate four runs on two hits and a Golden Eagle error that proved to be the difference-maker in a game with limited offense
- RHP Porter Olson (4-1) held Rock Valley to just two runs through five innings, allowing three hits and four walks while striking out five batters
- RHP Jim Traficanti threw two shutout innings in relief, striking out one and walking two while not allowing a hit
- Alex Chaltin plated Joe Pender (hit by pitch) in the rally on a RBI single to left field
- Chaltin and Matt McBrien (singled) came around to score on a Golden Eagle error on a ball in play from Cullen Kleinsasser to give the Chaps a 3-2 lead
- Michael Morgan scored Kleinsasser on a sacrifice fly to center field to extend the lead to two runs
- Billy Rogus singled through the right side but was stranded on the bases in the fifth inning
- Rogus and Matt Betancourt split time behind the plate, each throwing out a runner trying to steal second base
Rock Valley 5, Chaps 3
- The game was scoreless through the first two innings before the Golden Eagles plated four runs on three hits and an error in the third inning
- The fifth Golden Eagle run came around to score on a wild pitch in the fourth inning
- The Chaps' offense tripled its hit total from three in the opener to nine in the second
- Jason Sullivan was the first Chap run after singling in the fourth inning, scoring on a RBI double from Michael Morgan
- Joe Pender went 2-for-3 with two singles, a HBP and a run scored
- Matt McBrien scored Pender on a RBI triple in the fifth inning
- Alex Chaltin went 1-for-4 with a single, driving in McBrien
- Steve Hobbs (2-2) started on the mound, throwing two and a third innings, allowing four runs on four hits and three walks while striking out three batters
- Mike Biscan threw one and two-thirds innings, keeping the Golden Eagles hitless and striking out one while allowing a run on two walksÂ
- Michael Tuman threw three scoreless innings to close the ballgame, striking out one while allowing just one hit
