COD, which trailed by five runs in Sunday's opener against Prairie State, found its way back and went on to earn a sweep over the Pioneers, winning the opener 10-9 in eight innings and a 15-0 thumping in the second in Region 4 softball at Sark Park.
The Chaparrals (14-6, 14-6 Region 4) are at Joliet Junior College (11-15, 10-10) on Tuesday in the last regular-season games between the only Division III Region 4 teams.
The two will meet for the Region 4 title May 2-3 at COD.
Game 1: Chaparrals 10, Prairie State 9 8 innings
- Cadee Baker's walk-off single in the eighth brought in Addison Brandl, who led off the inning with a triple
- Julia Colorato homered twice, the first set the fourth inning in motion when the Chaps scored four runs on four hits and sent nine to the plate
- Danielle Whitman's three-run double keyed the fourth
- COD added two runs in the fifth and Colorato's solo HR gave COD a 9-8 lead
- Brandl, who started the game, earned the win by throwing one inning of relief
- Reliever Alyssa Dubinski kept COD in the game with her 4 1/3 innings
- Taylor Gloms had three hits with a double
- Raena Del Angel had two doubles and Baker added another
- Riley O'Neill contributed a triple and also had three outstanding defensive plays at CF, including back-to-back putouts in the seventh
Game 2: Chaparrals 15, Prairie State 0 5 innings
- Gloms (2-3) earned the start in the circle, throwing a 3-hit shutout with four strikeouts
- Gloms added a two-run single in the third
- Sydney Hurst, Julia Colorato, and Maddison Leftridge all had two-RBI games
- Leftridge led, going 3-for-3 with two runs scored
- Hurst and Gracie Brucki both doubled
- Baker and Colorato each tripled
- CoD totaled 16 hits
