Host Joliet Junior College took a pair from the Chaparrals in Region 4 D3 softball, handing the Chaps an 11-10 and 12-9 sweep Tuesday.
Those two teams will compete for the region title May 2-3 at COD.
COD (14-8, 14-8 Region 4) remains on the road this week, playing at always-difficult Rock Valley, ranked No. 10 in D2, on Friday.
Game 1: Joliet JC 11, Chaparrals 10
- Taylor Gloms hit a two-run home run and scored twice in four at-bats
- Addison Brandl helped her cause with a two-run HR, scored twice and added a single
- Cadee Baker was the only other Chap who earned an extra-base hit (double)
- Baker also scored three runs
- JJC took control with a six-run third inning
- COD closed in late, scoring three runs in the seventh
- RHP Brandl went the distance, striking out six, walking five and scattering seven hits
Game 2: Joliet JC 12, Chaparrals 9
- COD overcame a 4-0 deficit after two innings with five runs in the third and three in the fourth for an 8-4 lead
- JJC answered with three in the fourth and then rallied with a five-run sixth
- Sydney Hurst and Raena Del Angel each homered for the Chaps
- Hurst finished 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored
- Del Angel, who leads the team in HRs with six, went 2-for-4 with two runs scored
- Jenna Maples doubled twice, driving in two runs
- Cadee Baker and Julia Colorato each doubled
- Riley O'Neill stole two bases
- Taylor Gloms struck out five, walked five in 5 1/3 innings
