No. 3-seed Oakton scored 16 unanswered runs and COD never recovered in a 16-5 Region 4 Division III tourney opening-round game Thursday afternoon at COD.

COD (17-26) faces No. 4-seed Waubonsee (13-40) at 9 a.m. Friday in an elimination game as the tourney will be played at Joliet through Saturday. The Chiefs lost 11-2 in seven innings to Joliet on Friday.

• Starter RHP Jason Sullivan went six innings and faced just 16 batters and allowing one hit through his first four innings, routinely hitting 90 mph on the radar gun and keeping the Owls scoreless
• COD struck with two runs in the third
• Cullen Kleinsasser hit a two-out, opposite-field double down the right-field line that scored Matt McBrien (single) and AJ Fulscher (walk)
• In the fourth, sophomore Alex Chaltin delivered a bases-clearing, two-out triple to left that scored Anthony Titone (single), Matthew Betancourt (single) and McBrien (hit by pitch) and COD led 5-0
• Chaltin's triple was the last hit of the game for COD, which went hitless in its final four innings
• Oakton put the game out of reach in the seventh, breaking a 5-5 tie with a three-run, one-hit inning
• The Owls sent 13 batters to the plate in the eighth, scoring eight runs on five hits
• Sullivan, Michael Tuman and Alex Ingram combined on issuing 10 walks and hitting three batters
• Owls reliever Rafael Valdez earned the win, striking out six and not issuing a walk in his 4.1 innings of no-hit work
