The College of DuPage women's basketball team never trailed in their Region 4 contest against the Wilbur Wright College Rams on Thursday, Jan. 15, coasting to an 81-41 victory inside PEC Arena.
Lexi Lopez and
Jamie Hasemann got the lid off the cup right away with back-to-back three-pointers. DuPage's scrappy defense forced countless turnovers, limiting WWC to an 8-point first period.
Halfway through the second quarter, DuPage's lead had grown to twenty points, courtesy of a balanced approach that saw seven different Chaps log points before the half. Lopez led the charge with a handful of driving layups, while
Aylin Lagunas dominated in the paint.
Up 42-15 entering the third quarter,
Saniyya Harvey and
Ayaani Gusman kept the scoring going with makes from beyond the arc; while Lagunas and
Erin Brown continued to pick away at the Rams' defense down low with multiple baskets each.
DuPage was able to easily close out the final ten minutes, earning their fourth win of the season in Coach Kristin Ison's first year at the helm.
"Our goal was to establish the tone and pace of the game early and I was happy we were able to do that," said Ison. "Each player contributed and worked hard the entire game. We're hoping to carry this energy over to Saturday's game."
Harvey's 16 points led DuPage, with Lopez, Brown, Hasemann and Lagunas each in double-figures.
COD (4-13) continues the campaign on Saturday against the Harper College Hawks at 1 p.m. inside PEC Arena.
