The College of DuPage women's basketball team hosted the Hawks of Harper College on Jan. 17 and used a fast start to secure a 67-51 victory in Glen Ellyn. The Chaps jumped out to a 15-4 lead in the first quarter and helf off the Hawks the rest of the way, extending their winning streak to three games.
Ayaani Gusman led the Chaps with 14 points.
Jamie Hasemann and
Erin Brown each added 11 points, while
Lexi Lopez rounded out the double-figure scorers with 10 points. Lopez also turned in a strong all-around performance, recording three assists and a team-high eight steals.
Saniyya Harvey provided a spark off the bench, contributing nine points and four steals. Brown was once a force in the paint, pulling down a team-high 11 rebounds to finish six boards ahead of the next closest teammate.
Head coach Kristin Ison was pleased with the team's recent play but noted their is still room for growth.
"I'm extremely happy with today's game and the win streak we have built," Ison said. "Our team's chemistry and energy are getting better every day, and we're looking to continue to grow with this newfound confidence. We have a competitive week ahead of us, and we're looking forward to competing against some good talent and continuing to push ourselves toward more success."
The Chaps will travel to Madison, Wis., to face a the Wolfpack of Madison College on Jan. 22. Madison defeated DuPage 45-41 last season, and the Wolfpack leads the all-time series 15-9. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
