The College of DuPage women's basketball team held a five-point lead after the first ten minutes of action in Des Plaines on Saturday, Jan. 24 but couldn't close out, allowing the host Oakton College Owls to rally for a 74-60 victory.
COD's offense saw a starting trio of
Ayaani Gusman,
Lexi Lopez and
Erin Brown each score in double digits with 14, 12 and 11 points respectively; while
Saniyya Harvey contributed another dozen off of the bench for the Chaparrals.
Lopez and Harvey were the only players to make shots from beyond the arc for either team, but Oakton's Daphne Brown led all scorers with 26 points in the contest.
Turnovers and rebounding struggles allowed the Owls to claw back and pull away, as they forced eight more turnovers and collected twenty more boards than DuPage.
Gusman was able to come away with three of the Chaps' six steals on the night, while Brown's 11-point-11-rebound double-double is her tenth of the season.
COD (5-15) continues the campaign on Tuesday, Jan. 27 in Rockford against the Rock Valley College Golden Eagles. The Chaps are seeking their first program win against RVC since 2013.
