The 27th time will have to be the charm. The College of DuPage women's basketball team traveled to Rockford and Rock Valley College on Tuesday, Jan. 27 in a Region 4 contest.
Seeking the program's first win over the Golden Eagles in COD history, DuPage only trailed by five points after the first quarter. RVC would dominate the second period, outscoring the Chaparrals 19-5 in the frame. A strong third quarter from the Chaps wasn't enough as the Golden Eagles coasted down the stretch to an 85-51 final.
DuPage's offense put up more points in the third quarter than the first half, 19 to 18 respectively, but the RVC offense shot an efficient 47% in the period, and 39% throughout the game, to be comfortably in front through the final horn.
Lexi Lopez scored the first points of the game at the charity stripe before RVC took the lead. DuPage fought back to tie the game at 13 apiece, thanks to an
Ayaani Gusman three-pointer, but RVC closed out with the lead the rest of the way.
Gusman led DuPage with 14 points on the night, including another make from deep and six successful shots from the free-throw line.
Erin Brown and
Jamie Hasemann chipped in eight points each, with Brown adding eleven rebounds (including seven on the offensive glass).
Aneibi Farias Olaguez led the COD bench with seven points and
Aylin Lagunas chipped in six more.
COD (5-16) returns to the court on Thursday, Jan. 29 on the road at Governors State University against the JV Jaguars. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in University Park.
