The College of DuPage women's basketball team traveled north of the border to the campus of Alverno College to take on a Region 4 opponent, the Milwaukee Area Technical College Stormers, on Tuesday, Feb. 3. MATC held on to a 78-48 win, dropping COD to 6-18 on the year.
MATC opened the ballgame with a 9-0 run before
Erin Brown made a free throw. A
Lexi Lopez three-pointer later in the first made it an 8-12 ballgame, but four points would be the closest the Chaparrals would get to claiming a lead.Â
The Stormers would hold DuPage's offense quiet, entering the half with a 45-19 lead.Â
COD outscored MATC in the third quarter, 11-10, with shots made by
Cailey Salerno and
Jamie Hasemann leading the charge. The Stormers would stay consistent in the fourt quarter, scoring 23 points en rout to a 30-point victory. While
Lexi Lopez led in scoring with 13 points, along with a team-high 4 assists, Brown's 12-point-24-rebound statline brought her season total to a Top-30 national ranking in rebounds per game.Â
Hasemann contributed nine points, Salerno behind her with seven.
Kaisje Pryor hit a three-pointer in the ballgame while
Aylin Lagunas brought four points and three rebounds off the bench.
COD continues the campaign inside PEC Arena on Thursday, Feb. 5 against the Bryant &Â Stratton Bobcats at 5 p.m. The teams have split the last two meetings in program history.Â
